89 Seconds is a design project confronting the escalating nuclear threat amid political instability and environmental crises. It is aimed at research facilities and professional associations, and uses tactile, thought-provoking artefacts to raise awareness and provoke action within scientific communities.
The project includes the Doomsday Clock Timeline, a concertina-folded book visualising accelerating global crises, and the Nuclear War Survival Manual, a pragmatic guide highlighting the immediacy of 2025ās nuclear dangers. A thermo-chromic sleeve and interactive introduction physically engage readers, symbolising both personal responsibility and collective impact.
Through integration of form, function, and symbolism, 89 Seconds transforms design into activism. It evokes urgency, spreads awareness, and motivates action.
Copies of the Nuclear War Survival Manual were sold at the DABF 2025.
